Johnny and Anne Bramall were well known and well loved members of our High Weald NADFAS. Well known because for years they had unstintingly served the Society by providing the coffee and biscuit refreshments prior to our monthly meetings. Well loved both for themselves and because they gave this service despite Johnny’s advanced age.
Earlier this year, Johnny died in his 90s while on holiday in Anguilla We shall sorely miss him and extend our heartfelt sympathies to Anne whose life will be so much poorer without him. The manner of Johnny’s death, however, made it easier for her to bear. She showed me pictures of him laughing and swimming in the sea just minutes before his death.
I shall always remember Johnny for his wicked, if politically incorrect, sense of humour and the amusing emails he used to share with us. Above all, though, I shall treasure the the occasion we went to dine with them and, as we left, he presented us with a beautiful loaf of bread he had made specially for us, a loaf he had mixed and kneaded himself and a token of his warm affection.
If you have a story of Johnny you would like to share with us, please send it to me and I will post it here.
